Macarons: Ladurée & Pierre Hermé

Macarons: Ladurée & Pierre Hermé

If you love macarons, or you have never tried one and are curious, our hotel is located really close to two of the best macaron makers in Paris. In Saint Germain des Prés, you have both Ladurée and Pierre Hermé. We have a preference for Pierre Hermé, but you should check both. PIERRE HERME - The Picasso of pastry Pierre Hermé mixes modernity by keeping his French roots and revisits traditional French pastries by making them even more divine by using a very creative aroma palette (with salt and other spices). The internationally known French baker never runs out of new ideas to twist his receipes. Pierre Hermé started his successful career as an apprentice of the famous French baker Gaston Lenôtre, then he became the head pastry chef for Fauchon and Ladurée before creating his own brand Pierre Hermé. He opened his first boutique in Paris located at 72 rue Bonaparte in Saint Germain des Près. He was the youngest person ever to be named France's Pastry Chef of the Year and has been awarded by France's ex President Jacques Chirac the "Chevalier de la legion d'honneur" in 2007. If you wake up early enough, try the Ispahan croissant. They usually sell quickly. The croissant is a buttery-rich puff pastry, rose-flavoured almond paste, compote made with raspberries from the Haut-Vivarais region and litchis. The flavors are very subtle. In February, you could enjoy the Jardin Sucré (Sweet Garden), a mix of Caramel and Rose. In April, you had the Jardin Japonais (Japanese Garden), a mix of Morello Cherry, Lemon and Tonka Bean. Today, the reputation of Ladurée is mainly based on its macarons. It is Pierre Des fontaines, Louis Ernest Ladurées grandson, who created the Parisian Macarons : he had the idea to put the Macaron's shell together and to fill it with cream.
