In Alberto García-Alix words: "Un horizonte falso (A false horizon) is a world of altered presences trapped in an instant of eternal silence. Here the visible is a metaphor of itself and of a thought. Thought as a revelation fuelled in a monologue that is stretched over a horizon. A false horizon...”

PARIS FREED, PARIS PHOTOGRAPHED, PARIS EXHIBITED
Musée Carnavalet
June 11th to February 8th
Paris was liberated on August 25th 1944. The musée Carnavalet, on November 11th 1944 opened an exhibition on the liberation of Paris, which was a huge success at the time. The museum is now looking back at this expo and showing photographies from Robert Doisneau, René Zuber, Jean Séeberger, as well as old movies, video interviews of witnesses on this important date, books who were rushed to the press right after the liberation, or objects showing the engagement of the french resistance. This unique accumulation of documents provides an insight into how images were created in wartime, as photographs and films come together to show us how individual and collective visual memories were shaped; and how, over time, the same images were subject to varying interpretations.
The musée Carnavalet is a great small museum on the history of Paris, located in the Marais district. The idea of a museum devoted to the history of Paris came about under the Second Empire, when a large part of the historic heart of Paris was being demolished. In 1866, at the instigation of Baron Haussmann, the city council bought the hôtel Carnavalet, who was built in 1548, to house this new institution. It is the oldest municipal museum in Paris.
Note that due to security maintenance, the following rooms from Middle Age to XVIIIth century are closed : rooms of the Renaissance, rooms of the XVIIth century, rooms of the aldermen, the gallery Sévigné and the rooms Louis XV.

HEDI SLIMANE « SONIC »
Fondation Pierre Bergé Yves Saint Laurent
September 18th to January 11th
Born in Paris in 1968, Hedi Slimane now lives in Los Angeles. His passion for photography started at a really young age, but he was also destined to work in fashion. In 1996 Pierre Bergé chose him for the position of director of menswear at Yves Saint Laurent. In 2000, he is appointed creative director of Menswear at Christian Dior. In July 2007 he moved to Los Angeles after quitting Dior and in march 2012 Yves Saint Laurent appointed him as creative director assuming total responsibility for the brand image and all its collections.
The exhibition "Sonics" takes a look at 15 years of Slimane's musical photography archives. Over the past 15 years, Slimane has turned his lens on musical iconoclasts like Lou Reed and Amy Winehouse while throwing himself camera-first into burgeoning music scenes all over the world. Sonic is a blend of the two, with more formal studio portraits sitting alongside a video installation that pays homage to the raw energy of indie rock in London and its spiritual descendent, the DIY music scene in Los Angeles.
He said: “I’ve always felt comfortable around musicians. Photographing them is my way of keeping a diary or a chronicle of my time.” As a teenager he was intrigued by Russian Constructivist photographers such as Alexander Rodchenko; in his late 20s he collaborated with Richard Avedon, a great friend and mentor.

WILLIAM EGGLESTON
Fondation Henri Cartier Bresson
September 9th to December 21st
William Eggleston was born in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1939. After discovering photography in the early 1960s, he abandoned a traditional education and instead learned from photographically illustrated books by Walker Evans, Henri Cartier-Bresson, and Robert Frank. He began his career making black-and-white images, but soon started experimenting with color technology at a time when color photography was confined to commercial advertising. In 1976, Eggleston mounted "Color Photographs" a now famous exhibition of his work at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, which established him as a pioneer of color photography. His subjects were mundane, everyday, often trivial, so that the real subject was seen to be color itself. He inspired a new generation of photographers, as well as filmmakers.
