What to do on the 14th of July in Paris?
The fourteen of July marks the celebration of the storming of the Bastille prison in 1789 by revolutionaries and of the "fete de la federation" in 1790.
Military Parade:
A military parade takes place as usual on the Champs Elysées.
From 9am: The troops, both on foot and on motorcycles, will have taken their places at the Place de l’Etoile / Avenue des Champs-Elysées.
From 10am: Arrival of the President, Republican Guard at Place de la Concorde, opening fly-past, parade of troops on foot, mounted troops, and motorized troops.
Fireworks:
Fireworks will be launched from the Bassins du Trocadéro (Eiffel Tour). The firework display will start at around 11pm and will last 35 minutes.

Le Bal des Pompiers (Firemen's ball)
It is a tradition. Every 13th and 14th of July firehouses, which are usually historic buildings (at least in Paris), open their doors to the public for the Bal des pompiers (firemen's ball). There is no cover charge, but you will see a donation box when you pass security (make sure you give a couple of euros). You then usually enter a big courtyard, where a band will play both French and contemporary music. In some cases, you have indoor rooms where they have a DJ and play electronic music. You can buy champagne, wine, or beer (ok not of the best quality, but you have the option). It usually brings a very diverse crowd (families, youngsters, hipsters, adults) which makes it interesting. So be ready to dance until late at night, and don't be put off by the line outside, it usually goes pretty fast. You will experience something different and see French firemen decked out in their uniforms.
